Standing on the shoulders of giants.

TuringDuel exists because of an incredible ecosystem of open source software, generous infrastructure providers, and yes, AI assistants that helped bring it to life. This page is a genuine thank you to all of them.

The Foundation

At its core, TuringDuel is built on Ruby and Ruby on Rails. After all these years, Rails remains a joy to work with. The framework's philosophy of convention over configuration and its focus on developer happiness made building this game possible in weeks rather than months.

Thank you to Matz for creating Ruby, and to DHH and the Rails core team for maintaining a framework that still feels magical.

The Gems That Make It Work

A special shoutout to RubyLLM, the gem that makes all the AI interactions possible. It's elegantly designed, well-documented, and made integrating multiple LLM providers surprisingly painless. Without it, this game simply wouldn't exist.

But RubyLLM is just one gem among many. TuringDuel depends on:

Each of these represents countless hours of work by developers who chose to share their code with the world. The Ruby community's generosity never ceases to amaze.

The Infrastructure

TuringDuel runs on Hetzner, a German hosting provider that offers remarkable value and reliability. In a world of complex cloud pricing, their straightforward approach is refreshing.

Cloudflare sits in front, providing CDN, DDoS protection, and their excellent Turnstile CAPTCHA alternative. They've made the web faster and safer for everyone.

Deployment happens via Kamal, the Rails team's deployment tool that makes Docker deployments feel almost as simple as Heroku, but with full control.

The Observability Stack

Behind the scenes, several open source projects help keep things running smoothly:

The Delicious Irony

Here's where things get meta: a game about humans competing against AI to prove their humanity was largely built with help from AI. Claude (particularly Opus) served as a tireless pair programmer, helping debug tricky issues, suggesting better approaches, and occasionally writing code that just worked.

There's something poetic about that. The same technology that powers your AI opponents in TuringDuel also helped build the arena where you face them. We truly are living in remarkable times.

AI didn't replace the developer. It amplified what one developer could accomplish. The bugs? Those are still human.

Thank You

Open source software is one of humanity's greatest collaborative achievements. Millions of developers, most of whom will never meet, contributing to a shared commons of code that anyone can use, modify, and improve.

TuringDuel is only possible because countless people chose to share their work with the world. This page can only scratch the surface, but the gratitude runs deep. Thank you.

We're working hard to increase the number of games you can play. Running AI models costs money, and we're figuring out the best way to make more games available.

In the meantime, feel free to contact us if you'd like to request more games!
